Tales of a Kosher Lesbian

M. Passey

O forgive me, Abba, i have sinned:
i watched Moses split the Red Sea along the corner of Myrtle and Broadway with
a boom box spitting kaleidoscope jazz at dawn
He emptied the wasteland of stars into my left hand and gave me an old
Budweiser for the road
we speak of Shabbos like it’s the wet highway moons drowning in rivers of Manischewtiz
a promised land to my Jewish dykes
with hairy calves and sandpaper thumbs
Kosher shirts soaked in factory grease
until i sink below the gum-stained sidewalks of Babylonian tenement homes on 2nd avenue,
i send my Holy salutes to Sappho (who ate the poisoned apple of Eden)
for let us say, Amen
