Sunflower
Jean Evans
sunflower and her sunny boy
sit in silence as city day turns to night
our town, our night aglow
each day ahead a star
we name each one.
our dreams soft whispers
silent prayers to the fading light
wishes dangle above us
tickling our noses
then float away.
our chilly bones warmed by fuzzy sweaters
pink cheeks
we are young
we have no secrets.
stretching out our limbs
we find we have no limits
only each other
warm bodies in space together tonight
in the light of the seven eleven
in the parking lot outside of our school
forever lasts an instant
sundown sunflower girl
i’ll speak your name to the world
